IP ADDRESS : Your Identity On The Internet .. Isn’t it???
IP Address is a 32 bit address or number that is normally written as four decimal numbers (of 8 bits each), each separate from the other by a decimal or a period(.) . This standard is known as dotted- decimal notation. A simple ip address ranges for various classes:-
1. Class A : 0.0.0.0 to 126.255.255.255
2. Class B: 128.0.0.0 to 191.255.255.255
3. Class C:192.0.0.0 to 223.255.255.255
4.Class D: 224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255
5. Class E: 240.0.0 to 255.255.255.255
IP-Address is like your phone number, once the attacker has it, you will be in a real problem, if the host you visited is not a trusted one . Using IP-Address, the location of a PC or Internet user can easily be found!!!
But be aware, IP Address can be spoofed using proxy servers and lots many softwares available on Internet. Spoofing of IP-Address makes it difficult for the Cyber Forensic Experts to figure out the exact location of the user. On the server log, they would get the IP of the proxy used, and subsequently, they will need to check the server logs of that particular proxy server and then only it is possible to trace out the user. But keep in mind that, if the attacker is brainy enough, he can go for some kind of multiple-proxy , which will nearly make it impossible to trace a user….
Just consider, if i am an attacker, and i used multi-proxy to connect to different servers through proxies in more than 100 countries or let’s say 10 countries. For figuring out the location, the forensic experts will need to track each proxy server one by one…
Earlier in 2003-2004,, people used softwares such as QKSMTP to start up a SMTP service on their IP Address and then send spam mails to many people. Such an activity which is not favorable for an Internet user, their IP Address is reported as blacklisted.. You can check out your listing at http://ip-address.domaintools.com/ . It will give your complete info such as location, blacklist status, proxy used, etc…
On the Internet, you will find numerous proxy agents, which will not let your IP be shown to the server. Such an activity is really useful when you have to visit a web site and do not want to get traced out. . .Moreover some people want identity protection, so that may force them to use proxy servers.
You know there are numerous softwares through which you can calculate a dynamic IP and several numerous things.
There are numerous anti-viruses or internet security suite packages available which promise you with identity protection. And in today’s era, it is really necessary .
