If you have been operating internet, you must have heard of File Transfer Protocol (THE PORT NUMBER 21!).
Many of you may be using “paid” softwares like CuteFTP, CoreFTP, etc and many of us (who actually believe in using the Power of Freewares rather than wasting hundreds of dollars on such apps) who use softwares like FileZilla.
I must say that, if you are the only USER of your computer and all it’s data is in your handle then only you should go for FileZilla or the other way is to get a paid version of CuteFTP or Customize FILEZILLA and get rid of it’s session storage facility..
It must be accepted that “Session Storage” in FileZilla may be a facility in some conditions but if this falls in BLACK hands, then surely you will regret of saving the hundred dollars on FTP apps.
First of all, let me tell you how to VIEW the password of “existing stored sessions”.. Sounds Interesting…
- Navigate to the folder: C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR-USER-NAME\Application Data\FileZilla
- You will see a few XML files.. This is the most interesting part..
- The password is stored in “recentservers.xml”.
- And guess what??? The password is in PLAIN TEXT..
So next time, when you visit your friend who uses FileZilla, try this trick and he or she will be amazed..
The steps to BLOCK this will be there in the NEXT Post. Keep Reading @Techite.com
