Transferring files through Bluetooth

Using Bluetooth to transfer heavy files from computer to mobile and accessing the complete core of file structure of a mobile phone. This is explained in this post.

For  performing the above actions, you must have the following requirements:-

  • Bluetooth enabled mobile phone
  • Bluetooth enabled USB dock or Bluetooth enabled Computer
  • My Bluetooth Places  (Software)
  • Microsoft Windows OS

It happens to us many times that the USB cable of cell phone is lost or misplaced. But what if this has happened to you and transferring the data from your cell phone to computer and vice-versa is urgent? In such a situation, Bluetooth comes to rescue you from the problem. Generally, the cell phone is shipped with a PC-Suite software through which you can use various features such as sending SMS, calls, accessing phonebook, etc. There are various modes of connectivity in such a case – 1. USB-Cable 2. Bluetooth 3. InfraRed, etc.  This type of applications is useful but what if you did misplace the installation CD? Downloading 100 MBs of data in India is like sitting for an hour or two.

If you are on a windows platform, you are lucky enough that the software Giant  Microsoft made something of very important of your use.

Once you have successfully installed your Bluetooth medium such as Bluetooth enabled USB device. Then you shall be able to observe a software named ‘My Bluetooth Places’. ‘My Bluetooth Places’ is available as you install a Bluetooth adapter driver compatible with your device. Now the next step for it is to switch on the Bluetooth of your cell phone. As you switch on the Bluetooth feature on your mobile phone, make it in discoverable mode. Now in your Windows’ Computer, Go to My Bluetooth Places. And Double-click the ‘FIND-DEVICES’ Option. After this, your cell phone will be visible. Click on the ‘BLUETOOTH NAME’ of your cell phone and then you shall be navigated to something like this screenshot. It will have options such as Data Transfer, Dial-UP networking, Hands-Free, Imaging, OBEX File Transfer, OBEX Object Push.

As the names of option signify, Data Transfer or OBEX File Transfer can be used to access all the drives of your mobile phone and copy installation files or theme files via bluetooth . This kind of connection makes it easier for you to understand the file-mechanism of your cell phone. In my case i.e. Nokia E63, it was quite easy to understand. And then using the file manager software of your cell phone you can install the applications.

If you ever wish to transfer .SIS files from one cell phone to another through bluetooth, it cannot be done. But another alternative to that is to use this process and easily copy important installation files, theme files, system files, etc.

You can’t underestimate the power of BLUETOOTH!!!

Hats of to it’s Ericssion FOR creating the most convenient method of connectivity .
